Hey everyone!  I'm slowly getting back into photography, more astrophotography, but some terrestrial shots too with my older D5000. My question is this, I need to shoot 15 sec exposures, and have been playing with the interval timer settings but I'm confused.  The interval is supposed to be the amount of time in between each shot which I have set at 3 seconds.  The number of intervals are to be the amount of shots I would like at 15 seconds, which for my test I chose 100.  Here's the kicker, I only got 14 shots before it stopped itself.  I tried different settings and all of which did not give me the asked for number of shots.  Like 3 sec exposures were set 3 sec apart for 15 shots and it stopped at 8.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

Oh, NR is turned off as is High ISO NR.

So, I had this issue a couple of years ago with my D600--turns out that the interval needs to include the exposure time--it's not just the time between shots.

I was trying to shoot the Perseids and needed to shoot steadily for a couple of hours. Screwed up my interval calculations and messed up my shoot a bit. I wrote about the experience here:  Shooting the Perseids: A Study in Mediocrity - NikonForums.com

Not sure if that really clarifies anything more than what I've already said.

Those little details will mess you up every time!

In other words, the interval needs to be set to the time between the start of exposures, not the interval between them.

And they did indeed mess me up! Ha ha!!!

Good clarification--thanks, Peter!
