Looking for some help, I have a 55-300mm Nikon lens but need something longer because when I attend music festivals and other events i find that I'm too far away to get good photos. I was thinking about something like a 150-600mm Sigma or Tamron but can't find any info on compatibility. Are they? Anything else I should consider? Teleconverter? Any help appreciated.

I haven't heard of any compatibility problems with the current bodies, but who knows when Nikon will activate something new in the communications protocol leading to the reverse-engineered third party lenses not working on new bodies again without updating firmware in the lens. For peace of mind on that score, you could get the Nikon 200-500.

Another factor to remember is that a longer lens will need a monopod for good results as it is both heavier and less forgiving for camera shake. There are events where they won't let you in with a long lens, either because the coverage rights are reserved or for security reasons.

Another thing is that you won't get the feeling of being there the pros do with their 70-200 up close to the stage. Getting closer is the key to good concert photography. Hanging back and using a long lens will get you the composition you want, but the photo will be flat compared to getting closer with a shorter lens.
