I am shooting star tail photos (last night's attempt attached) and want to leave the shutter open longer than 30 seconds (the longest my camera has before bulb setting).  My question is: Can I use the intervalometer in bulb mode?  If so, how will it know to close the shutter?

Thanks for any help!

Camera: D5000 - yes, a little old but does pretty good.
