Hi

My 50mm lens stop focusing on my D700.

It does focuse on my D90.

The D700 just went with fine tuning but for the 85 lens. Any connection?

Any solution for the problem will be received.

Do other lenses AF on the camera? If not, have you checked to see if the AF/M switch on the camera body got bumped to M?

My 24-120 works fine on the D700

It's only the 50mm

Does the driver for the AF move when you change between Af and manual focus? Remove the lens and check. Do you have another screw-drive lens to test if the AF motor or linkage in the body is the culprit?

Thanks Merco. I thought this could be the reason. I don't have another screw drive lens. How can I test it?

The linkage just retracts the driver when you turn AF off, so this is the easy part to check. Checking the motor is harder to do without a second lens as it doesn't activate unless there is an AF lens mounted. If you have some kind of Nikon dealer within reasonable distance, you can ask if you can try to mount one of their screw-drive lenses to test. If it is a burnt-out motor, the question is if it is worth repairing or if it is cheaper to get a 50/1.8 AF-S lens instead. This also depends on if you are searching for any other AF lenses without motor.

The lens works on the another camera perfectly, so the problem is not the lens.

I have another lens (24-120), and it is working fine on the D700.

The problem can be the D700 focus motor. How can I test this one? I guess only with another lens that dont have buildin motor.
