Hi Guys - this is my first post - I expect there will be many more.

I am not new to photography but have never owner a DSLR camera.

I will shortly take the plunge and have more or less settled on the D3300. Is there any real advantage of going for the D3400 vs. the D3300. The price difference (based on my on-line research) is about $40.

Stan

The D3400 will have a (theoretically) bit cleaner image, but I doubt most folks could notice. It also has a deeper image buffer and built in Bluetooth to transfer picts to your phone.

The D3400 also ships with the AF-P kit lenses. These are a mixed bag. The lenses are quieter and faster to autofocus, but you have to go into menu settings to switch VR on/off (yeech). AF-P improvements will be most notable with video autofocus, but if you're serious about video you probably don't want to use autofocus plus you'll miss the mic input.

But here is what you give up to get that...

1.) Much less powerful flash.

2.) Ultrasonic sensor cleaning.

3.) Mic input.

4.) Accessory Terminal.

5.) In camera panoramas.

For me, 2, 3, and 4 would be deal breakers. YMMV

The D3400 has a built in AF motor that the D3300 does not have. Something to think about in case you might want to use older autofocus lenses now or in the future.

The 3400 does not have a focus motor. For autofocus to work you must use AFP or AFS lenses with built in focus motors.

Looks like Snapsort has their specs wrong then.

I prefer D3400. It has longer battery life than D3300 and also has bluetooth and smartphone remote control whish are absent in D3300.

I would go with the D3400 myself.

Actually the longer battery life "specified" for the D3400 was calculated taking the lower output flash into consideration. Leave it to Nikon to spin a lower output flash into better battery performance. (c;

I bought the D3300 body and the D3400 lens.I have no use for Bluetooth and the lens cleaner and better flash on the D3300 appealed. The lens is wonderful.
