This rings a bell for some reason - is there a screw thread on the outside of the inner part you've marked as 36mm, e.g. a reversing ring for macro work or something of the sort?

The Nikkor-T 10.5cm F4 used 34.5mm filters. From there, Nikon went to 40.5mm filters.

The rangefinder 5cm F3.5 Micro-Nikkor uses 34.5mm filters. There is the "F-C" Microfilm adapter to use this lens on a Nikon F, in reversed position. BUT- it would need to screw into a 34.5mm filter thread.

This is an obscure item: I'll have to dig out my Nikon/Nikkorex handbook...

One thought - it's about the right size to go around the eyepiece tube of some telescopes. There's something that looks a lot like it on page 33 here:

Nikon Nikkorex F instruction manual, user manual, PDF manual, free manuals

and I think that's what it's for.

Telescope tubes are normally either 1.25” or 2” sizes interior diameter so allowing form some tube thickness they might well be. Somewhere around I have some Olympus adapters like these. I will try and fish them out and measure for you.

Okies checked my telescope adapters and they have a 42mm internal diameter witha thread that fits the threads on the end of telecope 1.25” adapter.

Is it possible that the distance from the first slot on the iiner edge is actually 42mm diamter with a thread inside ? If so its most likely a telescope adapter.
