Tray having just one prime lens....that will challenge you.

There are "street photographers" that only use one lens their whole career.

Peace

That's right -- it's usually a 50mm. And they get some amazing shots.

Fyi, that Voigtlander is a manual focus lens.

I'd love a tilt/ shift lens, too. For the price, I'll stick to fixing converging verticals in post processing!

I don't mind manual focus. I kind of like it for those occasions when I want to slow down and think about what I'm shooting. I've got 3 manual focus lenses for my Nikon and many for my Pentaxes.

Also, I noticed Nikon a used Nikon 45mm manual focus pancake lens for sale. If funds weren't so tight, I'd grab it in a second. I might try to finagle it anyway.

Very true. There are times I'll go out with just one lens and I find it forces me to be more creative with composition and content... shooting things that I wouldn't normally "see" with another lens, or a bag full of them.

I do this, too, and I love the challenges it presents.

Tough call for me.  I prefer primes.  I mostly shoot landscapes and generic snapshots.  One lens - probably the 24-120G VR.

I would have to choose the Nikon 13 mm f/5.6 just for the sheer awesomeness.

I think I'll be good with a Nikon 50mm 1.8 :D

Great build quality, fast, and sharp!

From what I own, I'd say the AF-S DX Nikkor 17-55mm F2.8G ED-IF.  I just wish for a little less gravity!

For me it would be the 24-70, even though it is heavy. If I could substitute two primes for one zoom it would be the venerable 35/1.4 AIS and a 105/1.8AI or AIS

Nikkor Ai-P 45mm f/2.8.

Great focal length (Fx), quite good optical quality and tiny!

I purchased a secondhand Nikkor 24-70 f2.8, because I needed one at short notice, it actually wasn't that expensive, but I use it all the time especially in the studio, it even has a micro capabillity, but its a really sharp much underrated lens

I wouldn't be very happy trying to stick with one lens since I prefer using primes, but I have noticed I adapt my style to whatever lens I take for the day.  I've become accustomed to using 85mm on a crop sensor, so now that I have picked up a FF DLSR, I've decided to purchase a Zeiss 135/2.0 for the type of work I plan on doing with the camera.  It's ironic, since I rarely shot 135 on FF film, but I guess that would be my choice now.

My next lens will be either a Nikon f/1.8 85mm G or 1.4 Rokinon. I hear nothing but good things about both.

Next lens i want, ohh lol i realised i want 5 lenses, but the one i am most certain to buy will be the Sigma 70-200 2.8, But I'm really unsure, should i save up and get the Nikkor instead?!

If i am better off waiting for the Nikkor ill just get a 85mm 1.8G.

To awnser the question of the one and only lens i would want, Would have to be a 35mm

The Nikon 70-200 is my favorite lens - I had the VRI and now the VRII...don't know about the Sigma as I haven't used it, but I have been very happy with both of the Nikons - I prefer the VRII, but either would keep me happy!  Taken many photos with each at about every possible place in the zoom range at f/2.8 and been happy with the results...Just in the photos I was going through last night I had some nice shots at 70, 88, 101, 140, 180ish, 200 and that is from memory when I actually looked at the setting - which I really don't care about as long as I get my shot...just letting you know it works well across the full zoom range...

There are SO many great lenses to choose from. For only 1 it would have to be a great all-around shooter.

Let's go with Nikkor 18-105mm.

It's actually very good. I've gotten some great bird shots with it. Here are a couple:

Hope that helped.

WOW! Love the way the light hits the wings in 7353.

I would have to choose the 17-55mm f2.8. I shoot crop sensor (D500) so it handles most of the range I would normally use. It would get heavy after a while though!!
