Hi fellow enthusiasts and professional.

I noticed my 70-200 was way off, it havent been in the past, but always had a bit of a pain capturing deer, and therefor used manual focus much too often... Birds it seems to hit every time, atleast in my experience..

Not sure if BODY @D800E needs adjustment, or that I can adjust the lens in a different way - especially since its a greymarket

None the less, here is an album

I feel the mud is in front of the deer no matter if I push + or - on the AF-Finetune? I couldnt nail it, is it - or + to make the focus FURTHER away, not closer?

Also, please give me your thoughts on which pictures turned out the best as for AF-Finetune on the glass, its all in the EXIF info.

Cheers,

Marc

Perhaps I should have done 100% zoom before upload, seems not possible fo zoom enough on flickr?
Focus point is head of deer in all the relevant pictures - hence, the ones where the deer has its head close to the mud

I use Reikan's FoCal software. Print off a target and let the software do the work. No guess work.

From memory not that expensive.

I know not necessarily the question asked but thought I'd suggest it.

Have you seen this NPS article on fine tuning auto focus?

FoCal sounds fantastic but looks a bit complicated. If a 105mm lens needs to be at least 3.7 meters away from the target, a 70-300mm needs to be at least 11.1 metes away and there's not a big enough room in my house. I supose I could take the laptop outside and do it? This is probably a silly question, but do you have to connect the camera to the computer? Or do you upload a photo like when you get shutter count info?
