I hope we will see many holiday photos this week! :)

Sometime before midnight (whatever time zone you are in) this Sunday, 25 December 2016, post the best photo you have taken this week. Any subject, any style—just give us your best shot.

If you can, list your EXIF info and any special lighting setups you may have used.

P.S. The editing exercise is up and running again—come play with us (and feel free to play around in the old exercises too).

P.P.S. Also check out the music inspiration challenges. Some very cool stuff going on in there!

P.P.S. Peter is running a fun single lens challenge that we are all invited to participate in--though he is taking a break over the holidays. You are welcome to do your own in the interim!

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it!

I got up early to take some sunrise shots of Superstition Mountain at Lost Dutchman State Park, but it was so overcast the sun never made an appearance.  I turned around to see what else I could take a photo of and this saguaro was backlit by the glow of the City of Phoenix, 50 minutes to the west.

6:35 AM., D750, Sigma 24-105,30mm, iso 1000, 5 sec @f 6.3,

I have no idea what this is, however it looked pretty enough to take a photograph of.

D70 body with Nikon AF Nikkor 70-210mm non D lens.

1/125s, f/5.6, ISO 200 with Focal Length @210mm.

Today is Christmas, so Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! Looking forward to the New Year now!

Great shots from you all this week--Frank, I really like that red panda image!!! I hope to see one in person someday, but our zoo doesn't have any.

I got my D810 on Tuesday of this week but didn't have time to do much with it right away. Thursday night we made our annual trip to see the Christmas lights on Temple Square in Salt Lake City--that was the first chance I had to shoot much besides random snaps of family members who were hiding behind their hands. Nice camera! Used the 105mm as part of the single lens challenge and wished I had something faster but did ok with the 105.

I also made few portraits of our Christmas mouse--our substitute for the creepy-looking Elf on the Shelf.

Our daughter also wanted some portraits with the mouse, so I obliged. This one cracked me up--I can barely get her to give me a normal smile for the camera these days.

The little girl also loves to play art director and stage shoots (she has all sorts of advice when I am shooting still life). She decided to stage a portrait with Maggie and some nuts--I set up my D600 so she could take a few shots. She did a pretty good job too!
