Lens hood will not come off 70-200mm lens

I incorrectly attached my lens hood to my Nikon 70-200mm lens. Now it will not come off. Anyone have a solution? Pressing release lock and rotating clockwise does not work. It is stuck and will not rotate more than an inch.
