I am looking for a steady yet lightweight and compact travel tripod for long exposures and start photography.

I have tried a couple of them but unfortunately they are shaky in windy conditions even when I attach a weight to them. I have a Nikon D5500 which is not very heavy.

Does anybody have a recommendation?

Thanks all!

Arash

Have you looked at the Gitzo Traveler Series 1 or the traveler copies from Feisol? The Sirui T2204X might be worth a look as well.

If we leave the compact part out of the equation the Sachtler Speed Lock 75 is probably the sturdiest tripod you can find under 2 kg, but it is a bit expensive.

I can vouch for the Sirui. It's a good tripod, even though it does have it's quirks. That said, the Gitzo Traveler Series 1 is a better tripod if you have the money to spend.

In any case, you're probably going to run into wind problems with any lightweight tripod. I have heard of people who carry poster board, reflectors or backgrounds for just this purpose. You can't use them in high wind and you will need someone to work as a grip but it's an option none the less.
