Sometime before midnight (whatever time zone you are in) this Sunday, 27 November 2016, post the best photo you have taken this week. Any subject, any style—just give us your best shot.

If you can, list your EXIF info and any special lighting setups you may have used.

P.S. The editing exercise is up and running again for fall—come play with us (and feel free to play around in the old exercises too).

P.P.S. Also check out the music inspiration challenges. Some very cool stuff going on in there!

P.P.S. Peter is running a fun single lens challenge that we are all invited to participate in. I'm still trying to find a way to participate! Thinking I will bring my camera to work for the next couple of days...

I'll be first this week. A surprised proposal that the dude starting planning in March. Under the false pretense that I was there to take a portrait of the two he popped the question. Wanted to use two different lens so I was shooting with two cameras. However, this shot was taken with a D610, Tamron 24-70 (That I just got back from repair). ISO 250, F6.3 @ 1/200 I just love this kind of stuff. :)

It tis the season.  This was taken in my house and thought it would make a nice photo.  I didn't do a great job of cloning and healing, but it was the best I could do.  Thanks so much for viewing.

Pentax k100d super body with SMC Pentax-DA 18~55mm AL Len.

1/50s, F/13, ISO 200, Focal Length @35mm, used onboard flash and Multi-Segment Metering.

Happy Holidays.

The last time I took my daughter skating, I used the Nikon Df with the manual-focus 85/2 Ais. I had a 40% keeper rate for in-focus shots. Lighting was often too low for the focus-assist for a fast moving skater. This week I used the Nikkor-PC 8.5cm F2 in Leica mount, made in the mid 1950s. In-focus/acceptable focus more like 90% using the optical viewfinder and 1.25x magnifier on the eyepiece. No viewfinder black-out means being able to pan while making the exposure. Nikon Rangefinder lenses are amazing, have stood the test of time. The Nikkor 8.5cm F2 is the lens that caught the attention of David Douglas Duncan. He ended up not buying one for Korea, bought the Nikkor 5cm F1.5 and 13.5cm F4. I have those, also.

The last time I went, the manager of the skating rink took note of the Df with the manual focus lenses, came up to talk about them and shooting in low light. I brought my "ugly but great glass" 35/2 and 85/2 Ais spares to loan to him. After all, they let me in for free.

I recently returned from a road trip to Alberta, Canada and Banff National Park.  The cloud ceiling was rather low for both days, very little color, so I shot mostly in B/W.  D750, Sigma 24-105

Shot on Saturday. Most of the leaves where gone but using a long lens at F4 I was able to blur the few remaining leaves in the background to give it a "full fall" look.

Shutter 200, ISO 200 F4, hair light using an SB800 with Magmod grid, main light was SB800 with Magmod sphere a tiny bit to the left of the lens.

Patrick--that's scary! Thank goodness you caught it when you did!!!

It turns out I did take a few photos this week. I forgot I had pulled my camera while we were decorating our Christmas tree. I was quite surprised by how long this guy hung out under the tree.

Oh good heavens--this cat=mischief, though he has kept his paws off the Christmas tree, which surprises me. Now if we could keep him from bringing live birds and mice into the house, he'd be practically perfect.

Last year my wife's cats made us very practiced at putting the tree back up( 4 times) and redecorating it (daily.) We were still finding the odd ornament in Aug of this year. We still haven't figured out where they had them all hid . So far this year they have left the tree alone.

When I was a kid we had a white cat (named Whitey... imagine that!) who used to love to just lay underneath the Christmas tree. Back in those days the lights were those huge incandescent things that gave off a whole mess of heat so he was a happy cat. He never once climbed the tree or messed with any of the ornaments. In fact on one occasion an ornament fell off on it's own... I actually witnessed this so I know he didn't do it. It scared him so bad .... yeah, big tough Tom Cat! ... that he wouldn't go back until someone picked up the errant ornament and hung it on the other side of the tree.

He never brought his "gifts" for us inside the house. He preferred to  leave them on the back step where someone could step on them going out the door. Ewwww......
