Hello everyone, I am currently looking to upgrade my D3300's kit lens to something sharper like the Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM. I read that its pretty good. My concern is that there have been compatibility issue with the D3300 in the past (screen freezing and focusing issue).

Has sigma fixed this issue? And is this lens a big jump from the kit lens?

I don't know if the revised firmware in the "D5300 compatible"-stickered ones solved everything for the D3300, but they probably work.

When it comes to picture quality, it sits between the two Tamrons. The Tamron non-VC is the sharpest of the three, but the background blur isn't the nicest. The Sigma is softer, but the backgrounds aren't as busy. The Tamron VC is softer still, with noticeable vignetting and some CA wide open. I wonder if the 17-70 2.8-4 Contemporary isn't a better upgrade as a walk-around lens than the quite old 17-50.
