Nope it wouldnt be with shipping and custom charges the other problem is and the one reason especially in the UK that I would warn against even attempting this is Nikon UK due to EU rules has to offer a 2 year warranty if you buy stock from outside the EU Nikon has to only offer the standard one year warranty and in the UK it makes certain that you know it

I don't think from the wording here that the 2 year warranty has anything to do with the EU. "As this is a Nikon UK & Republic of Ireland initiative it is only supported by authorised UK & Republic of Ireland repair facilities."

Also, from this page, "This applies to Digital equipment (digital SLRs, COOLPIX compacts & Coolscan film scanners)."
... "Nikon digital products sold outside Europe also have localised warranties and are not supported in Europe."

In other words, there's no UK warranty on cameras purchased in the US. Unlike Nikon USA, Nikon Europe will work on cameras from other regions, but only at a price.

Adam, is it necessary to only click the banner on the top of this post? I bought a lens though B&H the other day but clicked from the link attached to the sale price of the lens. I would like for you to get credit for the sale if possible.

I would recommend clicking on it, but it may have still been tracked if you clicked on a link on the forum.  Please PM me your order number and I will check it.  Thanks!

I just sent you a PM about this but don't have the order number handy. I'm not at the computer at the moment but I'll send it to you when I next use my computer.

Unfortunately not, at least I don't know any Canadian photo stores that also have affiliate programs.

If you do shop at the NYC-based retailers, we also partner with Adorama and they offer the same great service as B&H.

You should put this info as a sticky thread at the top. I was poking around looking to see if you had an Adorama Referral Program because I like their bundled packages, B&H doesn't offer those. I have some Tax Return money to burn... Tamron 70-200 here I come! :)

Because B&H sponsored our D610 giveaway, we agreed to only feature them as a partner here on the forum.

But alas yes, we're also Adorama affiliates.  Click on this link before ordering and the order should get credited to us.  Thanks!

I kinda figured. Adorama is my personal "go to" place. I'm seriously thinking of pulling the trigger on the Tammy 70-200 tomorrow. Adorama has a HUGE bundle with it. Filters, cleaning kit, additional Drop & Spill insurance, a lens bag... all for a few bucks fore than standard retail...

I just replaced my "favorites" link to Adorama with yours so now I don't have to go hunting LOL

Thanks!  Both stores are great IMO, I go with whichever as the hotter deals.

And DONE!

Look at this package Adorama is offering for around $1500 shipped:

  • Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 DI VC USD Zoom Lens for Nikon DSLR
  • USA 6 Year Warranty
  • Hoya 77mm Glass filter set
  • Camera and Lens Cleaning Kit
  • New Leaf 3 Year (Drops & Spills) Warranty
  • Lowepro S&F Lens Exchange Case 200 AW

Oh, and you still get the $100 mail in rebate!

I also try to buy local, but the photo stores in the Phoenix area are soo overpriced, one has to look elsewhere, and B&H is it.

I would absolutely "buy local" if there were any camera shops left. The nearest to me is NY Camera and Video and, let's just say, I'd rather not deal with them. Their Yelp reviews say it all.

I have had pretty good luck with Calumet since they bought one of our local chains...even though they are a chain, the store still has that local feel and I'd been dealing with that local chain for years prior to the change a few years ago...there is another local shop that I don't really care to deal with - just not a good experience from my point of view (along with several other photographers I know)!

I've found local camera stores to be a mixed bag at best. I would like to support local businesses but some of them either already have more business than they know what to do with  or they don't want to take the time to cultivate new customers. If you aren't ready to plunk down your bucks, they don't want to talk to you. I mean, if you can't fondle the gear, what's the point of buying local?

The other thing is availability. My Pentax shooting friends know exactly what I'm talking about. It was the same when I shot with Minolta gear. If you find a local dealer who sells your brand at reasonable prices, you should definitely try to support them as much as possible.

Way back in the day when I was just starting to get into photography, I shopped at a local shop that was easy for me to get to.  It was part of a local chain of shops (most in the US would probably recognize the name) and I eventually started working at the shop part time.  With the possible exception of one of the stores, every one of the stores I worked in (6) or visited (probably 20 more in various states) were very good about giving you the local feel, even though the chain continued to expand into a national chain of hundreds of stores.  Most of the staff took the time to help customers find the right gear for them and even took the time to teach folks how to use the gear, give them tips, etc.  They catered to the average photographer - not the pros and barely the pro-sumers although they pretty much stocked any gear available.  It worked out well for me since I kept up on all the gear, made some extra cash to feed my hobby and got me a discount!

They pretty much got squeezed out when the big electronics chains started carrying camera gear.  They're still around and most of their business is on the Internet now although I see they still have a few shops across the country.  Had a friend who worked for another local chain that did more work with the pro-level photographer.  I started buying my gear from him when I stopped working at the other shop.  I really liked all their shops and continued to buy from them after he left the company.  A couple of years ago, they got purchased by Calumet.  A few of their stores were closed at that time, but there's still one reasonably close and they're still great to work with so I continue to use them although I've made sure to pick up some things from B&H though the link here as I want to help support this site!  But when I need to get my hands on gear, rent, repair, etc. I'm off to Calumet...

Really?  Hadn't seen anything on that...Wow!

Just checked and can't get to their web site...hopefully they'll be able to come back from it - too bad for those guys though - really liked them and hate that they're having to go through it again...I guess I may end up having to buy from B&H - at least that will help this site!

Wow, that's too bad about Calumet. I hope they can get through it too.
