Ok, this is just a rant but. . .

I buy a brand new Tamron 24-70, beautiful lens. Very first wedding using it I drop it and it breaks. Send it into Tamron. They repair and two weddings' after that I drop it again. I use it for a couple of images and right 1/3 of image is badly out of focus.

Now I have to send it in again with 5 more weddings yet this year.

#$*@%%#!!!!! <----- that's me cussing

Rant over.

Buy a less expensive spare!

Do you use this one wide-open a lot? F2.8 Zooms carry a big premium, also have a lot of big glass elements that can get knocked out of whack.

Can you get by with a 28~70/3.5~4.5 or something similar?

I have spares. The Tamron took over as my work horse two months ago when I got it and yes, there are times I shoot 2.8.

I just boxed it up and shipping it out (again) in the morning.

Ouch!!!

I lent my Tamron 15-30mm f2.8 to someone who managed to chip the front element. So it's off being fixed.

Just curious. Is your friend flipping the bill for that? If I broke someone else's great it would be a no brainer for me to be paying for it.

Yes they are. I don't even want to know what it is costing to replace that front element!

I have learned over the years (I drop a lot of gear) that repairing Tamron and Nikon the Tamron repairs are way less expensive. I have a Nikon 24-70 that needs service (surprisingly not from a drop) and I just can't pull the trigger in sending it in for repair because I know the cost will be surprising high.

If anyone is interested, I got the lens back and shot my first wedding (since I got it back from the 2nd repair) with it yesterday. It would appear its working. Its a pretty nice lens.

However, I was talking to the video guy and we were comparing lenses. I told him if I dropped it again I'll probably just write it off and get something else. 3rd repair would be just too much I believe.
