Sometime before midnight (whatever time zone you are in) this Sunday, 6 November 2016, post the best photo you have taken this week. Any subject, any style—just give us your best shot.

If you can, list your EXIF info and any special lighting setups you may have used.

P.S. The editing exercise is up and running again for fall—come play with us (and feel free to play around in the old exercises too).

P.P.S. Also check out the music inspiration challenges. Some very cool stuff going on in there!

OK, so I was actually able to get out this past week and take photos and process them all in the same week! Here a few from the weekend trip....

Rannoch Moor Sunburst. I was very lucky with this one. I had been driving along the road and across the small bridge that can been in the photo and the light bursting out from behind the hills was incredible. I knew I could not stop the car where I was but was also aware there was an area about 1 mile up the road so I raced along to that in the hope the light was still god, which it was, although it was not as good as it was minutes earlier.

The Black Cuillin Hills. These hills are often photographed from this spot (a tiny village called Elgol on the Isle of Skye) with many a professional photographer having at least one of these shots on their portfolio. I was not there at the right time of the day and the light was not great, however, the sun did break through and cast some light onto some of the hills allowing me to capture this (and a few others).

Applecross Bay Beach. Applecross is another tiny village nestled away on the west coast of the Scottish Highlands with an incredible drive in over what is known as the Applecross pass which is reminiscent of an alpine road with switchback corners only this road is single track for 25 miles or so! I liked the loneliness of the two people onto beach and dark brooding skies over the mountains in the distance (the Red Cuillin on the Isle of Skye).

Hope you enjoy these.

I had about a 50% hit rate- lighting too low for focus confirmation to help with a moving target.

I slipped out yesterday for awhile. I headed to the river. After I got out of the car I made it out of the parking lot and about 100 ft on the trail. I never made it to the river. It was only about 1000 ft. from where I parked. I spent the 2 hours with in 200 feet of the parking lot shooting what ever caught my fancy. I had the D200 along with the Sigma 28-80, my 24/2.8 Ai , and my 105 ai with me.

Here are a couple from that time  the second one is with the Sigma. the first reads as the 24 in the Exif but I took a couple of shots atfer I took it off and mounted the 105.

I think it was actually the 105mm

Oh wow--great images this week!!!

I actually had my camera out this week and made some images--huzzah! It's about dang time. I was down in Lincoln County, Nevada, and didn't even scrape the surface of what's down there to photograph. We spent a ton of time in Cathedral Gorge...such an intriguing place. I think I'll do a blog post about the whole visit when I'm done processing images, but here are a couple of images from the trip.

ok - its a few hours late. I only just spotted the post!

These were my weekend project - freeze some holly into a jug of water then shoot the results.

Was a chance to try figure out the dark art of using my flashgun, and i'm quite pleased with the results.

Shot with D5300 and Tamron 70-300 macro lens, with Sigma flash. Light was diffused and bounced using a softbox and reflector placed behind subject.

Iso 100, shutter 1/200 and approx f7.1

Patrick, I'd recommend it! The problem with Lincoln County is that it is not on the way to anywhere else--you really have to go out of your way to get there. I suppose if you were visiting southern Utah, it wouldn't be too far for a side trip from Zion or Bryce Canyon... And depending on which way you go, it's about two and a half to three hours north of Las Vegas. So, it's possible, but definitely not convenient. I really liked the place though--I think we'll be headed back there a few more times.

What a creative idea! Well done!
