I have thought about doing a single-lens challenge for a while.

Doing it like the topic title leaves it open to zooms or even compacts as well as primes and we can all use whatever equipment we have available. I will start out with a favourite f/l on the D700, the 35 mm and I will start with the week between November 7 and 13. If anyone else thinks this is a good idea, just shoot along with me the week you want. I will run this as a separate thread for each week, just like our other challenges and exercises.

I haven't been able to do much photography for awhile now, but maybe something like this could be a good impetus to get started again... Great idea, Peter. :)

This is actually kind of my normal photographic life since my daughter was born. I'm mainly a prime shooter, and these days my lens may not get changed for weeks. I'll play along if I manage to wrangle time to actually shoot with a Nikon though. Maybe swap out for a more novel focal length.

Like Nicole, I have been away from my cameras for too long...I am doing some shooting on Friday though...and a horse show later this month...We are in the middle of multiple big and visible projects at work and I've spent much too much time on the road between Northern Virginia and North Carolina and working up there over the past several weeks to be really doing any photography.  Hopefully it will be settling down within a few weeks and I can get back to a normal routine!  Sounds like a fun challenge though!

I agree on the 200 f2 as well...pick one up for me when you get your's :)!

Seems of late I'll pack three lenses and only use one of them. A week at a time is a good call; I've seen some forums want to do this for a year. I would never survive that!

For this week- Nikkor-H 5cm F2 on the Leica M9. I have a head start with it, used nothing but that setup yesterday.

(EDIT 11/4/2016) I LIED! Took my daughter skating today... Needed the 85, took the Df. Daughters are enough of a challenge, too much for just one lens...But they are easier to focus on when they wear tops like this one! After all these years, she picks manual-focus friendly clothing.

The DJ at the skating ring came over to ask about my camera. Turns out he is getting into photography and videography. I KNOW he's going to want that Canon 814 Super-8 camera taking up closet space to do some Music Videos...

The "Single in" monthly challenges many forums run are fun and an education in themselves, but it takes a certain amount of self-discipline to get the most out of the exercise. There is nothing to stop anyone from using the same lens for consecutive weeks and do 4 or 5 weeks with a single lens. The idea is to activate people and perhaps learn to see with new eyes what a certain lens can do.

The 36 on 35 challenge some of us did last year were fun too, in their way, and I think most, if not all of us became better photographers by doing it.
