Hi! I need some help. I just bought a SB 700 for my boyfriend's D3000 and I want to know if it will work like the built-in flash when we mount it on the hot shoe or if we will need to do anything. I have a different brand dslr and so I don't know much about Nikon external flashes. Thanks in advance.

Unless there are some screwy settings from earlier in either flash or body, it should just work. For basic on-camera use there is no difference in how things work from brand to brand with the manufacturer's own current line of flashes AFAIK.
