Hi,

Are there options in D7200 or similar dslr bodies to lock auto exposure based on a lighting and then refocus before taking a picture. I tried setting AF-On in menu and use the AEL/AFL. button to lock and re focus but when changing focus area camera started to refocus and changed it exposure setting.

If its possible can this be used in AF-Continous focus modes or only Single.

And what should be best usage of AEL/AFL setting AF-ON or others as in the menu?

Thanks in advance,

Subbu.

If you allocate AF-start to the AE-L/AF-L button only (a4) and exposure lock to shutter half-press (c1), you will be able to control focus and exposure independently. You can, of course, control them independent from each other the other way around, but then you lose the ability to not refocus between exposures. If you use a VR lens you will always have to half-press the shutter to activate VR before a shot.

Rear button focus works best with AF-C mode as you can just repease the button to lock focus.
