There are much cheaper knock-offs avilable.

I have a Sunpak 16r pro ringflash and if I'm not using that, I would use a continuous light source. I personally don't think off camera strobe is very easy for macro photography. Ring flash outside, when continuous light source isn't available, and always either ring flash or a continuous source indoors.

Continuous light offers better control over the shadows and how harsh the light appears. And, of course, ringflash doesn't have issues with shadows, either.
