Nikon Forum Rules

In order to keep the forums running smoothly, maintain a great browsing experience, and keep moderator intervention to a minimum, please follow the simple rules outlined below when using our site.

If you have any questions or need help, please post in our site help forum, or feel free to contact us for help with private matters. If you would like to help cover server and software costs, please consider donating. Thank you for taking the time to read the rules!

General Conduct Rules

File Uploads

We allow all forum members to upload attachments (photos and other media) to their posts or threads and photos to our gallery and blog systems. Illegal or copyrighted content is not allowed; uploading privileges can be revoked upon abuse. Please scale your images to "web size" prior to uploading.  We prefer that all files are under 1Mb and no wider than 1300px.

Avatars

• 'Not Safe for Work' avatars are not permitted.
• Your avatar may not contain offensive or objectionable images

Signatures

• Links in signatures may not point to commercial services, competing forums, advertising websites, illegal services, sources of spam, or any other content deemed unwanted by the site staff.
• Images in signatures may not be excessively large.
• Large or obstructive signatures will be removed by the site staff.
• Many signature rules are automatically enforced by our system

Posting Images

• In order to prevent horizontal scrolling for most site users while maximizing the allowed size of posed images, no images wider than 912px are allowed in forum posts except in the first posts of threads in Post Your Photos or the Marketplace, where the maximum width is increased to 1024px.
• Please always add line breaks between posted photos. You may choose to use IMGWIDE or IMGTALL tags for excessively-sized images.
• Make sure photos above 2Mb are linked to rather than embedded.

Posting & Forum Membership

• Although debates and spirited discussions are allowed, we would like to maintain a friendly forum and do not tolerate rudeness, insulting posts, personal attacks or inflammatory content. Moderator decisions with respect to the nature of posts are final.
• Political and religious discussion/commentary is not allowed anywhere on the forum with one exception. Photography-related political issues may be discussed in the Photographic Industry forum.
• Please do not post meaningless threads, or nonsensical (or one-word) replies.
• Multiple or repeated posting of the same thread is not allowed.
• Advertising, spamming and trolling is not allowed in any part of our site.
  Please use our Personal Photo Sites forum for sharing links to your work, your link back to your site via your signature.
  You may not post links to items you are selling on eBay or other sites outside of our classifieds section.
• 'Not Safe for Work' (or Not Work-Safe) content is permitted only in the designated NSFW sub-forum and subject to that forum's rules.
• Please wait a reasonable amount of time before bumping posts: typically no less than 12 hours, and preferably about 24 hours, if absolutely necessary.
• Discussion of illegal activities is not allowed.
• Every individual member is allowed one NikonForums.com account. Registering multiple accounts is not allowed.
• While we are quite happy to have constructive comparative conversations about competing camera brands, please do not start any 'brand wars' or bash a particular camera manufacturer.
• We an English-only web site.  If you plan on posting in another language, please include an automated translation together with your post.
• While our rules cover typical forum situations, they cannot anticipate everything. Thus we reserve the right to take any actions we deem appropriate to ensure our website and forum is not disrupted or abused in any way
• We reserve the right to issue a ban, temporary or permanent, to anyone who willfully or excessively violates the forum rules.

Section-Specific Rules

 

Classifeds

We offer a classfieds section in which our members can buy and sell new and used Nikon gear.  This section is meant for personal listings only.  Please do not post on behalf of a store, make bulk listings, or sell items for other people.

 

Currently there are no fees associated with using the classifieds section.  If you plan on selling more than 20 items a year, we ask that you make a donation to help fund future development of the section.

Legal Matters

Illegal Activity

Should illegal activity be noted on the forum, fair action will be taken against any offenders. This may include a ban or the intervention of authorities.

Liability

The owners of the Forum take no responsibility for the misconduct of any user or guest. We are not liable for the content of any post, thread, or photo, although we will try to eliminate any objectionable material on sight. Furthermore, we are not liable for any data loss or other damage caused by the site or routine forum maintenance, including downtime.

The Forum does not take responsibility for any material uploaded to it. Objectionable material is removed immediately, as is copyrighted material once we have been notified of its existence. Each user also is personally responsible for the content he or she posts on the Forum. By posting content on the forum, each user acknowledges that it may be altered, removed, or stored at any time, and that the Forum maintains ownership and full control of all posts submitted to it.

Privacy

Any private information, such as e-mail address, collected during the use of the Forum is never given away or made visible to the public or to a third party.

Private information about you collected by us is very limited. It includes:

• E-mail address (for communication and registration verification)
• IP Address (for security reasons only)
• Date of Birth (currently not required)
• Browser & page access information (for statistical reasons only, pruned regularly)

If you wish to have your forum profile removed, please contact us.

When one donates to our site via PayPal or credit card, we do not obtain any personal information except the transaction ID and PayPal e-mail address. These credentials are only used to contact you if needed.

Regarding occasional site e-mails: you can unsubscribe from all site e-mails via your control panel.

We do not recommend the disclosure of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) in your public profile or on the Internet in general, and we are not responsible for any consequences that may arise thereof. Profile privacy may be configured in the User CP. Note that we cannot guarantee the privacy of anything that a user him/herself places in public sections of the site, or that a user sends to other users via Private Message or e-mail.
