Would not "Other Brand" be a better name?  Somehow the term "Off Brand" carries a pejorative "smell."    I have several different Other Brand cameras, including Pentax, Zeiss Ikon, Busch, Canon, Ricoh, Bronica, Retina, Voigtlander, and Balda.

Nikon is an honorable brand, but Zeiss and Voigtlander are older by many, many years.  Pentax with its AsahiFlex and the Pentax SLRs preceded the iconic Nikon F by several years.

I'm not trying to ignite a Flame War, but perhaps a change in name might be considered.

I have often felt the same way.  Another way of putting it would be, non-Nikon brands.  I have tried many different ways.  This reminds me of the time when my wife and I had returned to the U.S., from a vacation abroad.  As we were walking toward the terminal, there were two signs with arrows saying, "U.S. Citizens this way", and "Aliens this way."  "I felt that the word, "Aliens' certainly must come across as being untoward."  Why not just say, "non-U.S. Citizens?".  Anyway, that is my story and I am sticking to it.  Thanks for posting this issue.

Rgds,

Tony

I think they mean in the pinned post. The section is, of course, called Other camera brands.

I don't think that it was meant to be a slam to other camera brands, but this is a Nikon forum.   It is just a logical name for an area for brands other than Nikon.

Ah.  Thanks for pointing that out!

Adam isn't a camera snob, he runs the most popular Pentax camera forum on the internet as well(for what it's worth).

No slam against Adam, I am a long time member and fiscal SUPPORTER of PentaxForums.com.  A fine forum, which has a section for Non-Pentax Cameras: Canon, Nikon, etc.  This would be a good way to re-name this section.

As it already is, and has always been called "Other Camera Brands", I don't understand. The sticky was badly titled, but Adam has fixed that now.

Then my mission here is done!

Sorry to be a stickler, but we Pentaxians deal with so many of the unknowing - "Pentax!  I didn't know they still existed..." that many of us adopt a perhaps overly defensive attitude. I am catholic in my cameras, as indicated in my initial post to this forum.  I have a Nikonos III with the 35mm and 80mm lenses (Jacques Cousteau calls to me....) and a Nikon S2 with the 21mm Voigtlander, the 35mm Voigtlander, the immortal 50mm 1.4, the 105mm f2.4 and the 135mm.  Plus the Varifocal viewfinder so I can see what I'm shooting!  Oh for a Kontur viewfinder for lenses other than 50mm.

Adam, thank you for the change.  I hope that this Nikon forum will achieve the excellence of your Pentax forum!

Live long, and prosper!

George
