This is such a dilemma. I'm still deciding whether to get this or D7000/D7100.

As the selling prices go down, at what point does a D600 become compelling?

If it will help anyone to decide between the D610 and a discounted D600, here's my experience with the dust/oil sensor issue. I have had my sensor cleaned once ($60! By Nikon, the tech acted all surprised and said that they had never heard of the issue and this was after Nikon had posted the service advisory.) and cleaned it myself once ($40 in supply costs!) within the first six months of owning the D600 (approx. 5,000 shutter releases). I had an unbelievably large number of dust particles, it looked like i was shooting a swarm of locusts It''s been four months since the last clean and there is no where near the same level of dust accumulation as I had previously. i'd describe it as low to normal in what you would expect to see if you change lenses outdoors (about 8,500 shutter releases now). Problem seems to be resolved.

this camera doesn't seem to offer much new other that hopefully no sensor issues. However I have a D600 and its up to 12,000 shutter count and I don't see any issues with it... so far (fingers crossed)

Like most things in life, perception is everything. I have recently been researching reviews when I was looking to purchase an upgrade for my D40 which I have had for five years. I was put off the D600 by the comments I read in a number of reviews concerning the oil issue. I eventually purchased a D7100, but since purchasing this I have just read a review that mentioned a potential oil problem with this model as well. It makes me wonder whether this whole issue about oil is true or a rumour that has gone wild! I understand that Nikon refuse to comment on the issue, which is quite understanding as it could be a costly exercise if it was found to be true.

I hadn't heard of oil issues with the D7100!  Anyone else?

Anyone think Nikon should give a healthy p-ex for a D600 against a D610, or change the shutter mechanisms on all D600's? Apparently they're doing that on some that have been booked in for cleaning (according to Gray's of Westminster).

I'm waiting to see how the price falls to. D600, D610 either one will do.

Wouldn't it be of better faith to just fix the D600? I know if my car breaks the same as many others they issue a recall and fix it. I know that might not be the best option but this is a major company after all.

I think this is a nice update. It seems a little soon, but sounds like they addressed some of the shortcomings of the D600. I think this will also kill off the last of the hopes some have for a D400 to be coming out ever. With the D7100 and the D610 there is no real room now for a DX body in the same basic price range as the D610. And I don't see them putting out a DX camera for $1,500.

Why is it that people don't like this new camera? Are D600 users with faulty shutter not addressed properly?

My challenges in photograpy is taking good pictures in poor lighting conditions i.e night or indoor events and fast moving objects i.e. birds in flight. Would the D610 be better to use in this conditions? I'm using D7000 right now and i'm not getting the results with satisfaction.
