D610 is nice, but is the d600 a steal if the oil issue has really been resolved?

Absolutely! If you are happy to take a D600 knowing there is potential sensor dirt issues, then go for it! I am sure you will find them at very good prices and I am sure you may also be able to barter them down even more to get an even better deal. For me, the only selling point on the D610 was the "fixed" sensor issues. None of the other "upgrades" were a selling point and I would have quite happily have taken a D600 if the sensor dirt issue was guaranteed fixed on all new models. I know people with D600 who have not had any issues so if you are thinking about one and you are getting a great deal on it, go for it!

Definitely a dream camera for me to upgrade from the D100 and the D3100 (which has so many sensor scratches unfortunately :/ not dust spots either....) And luckily the D610 is free of the oil spots problem!

I own a D90 and I'm thinking about buying a full frame camera.
After doing a thorough search on internet and looking at sample photos and reading reviews, I think this model is going to be my first Full Frame camera its more affordable than D800

So, my question is, has anyone bought one yet and used it for astro stuff? With its low light performance I would think it would be great for it. If I were to buy one that would be the first thing I would want to try/do with it.
Cliff, I bought the D600, and the D610 seems to be about the same as the D600 with fixes to the camera body and a few very minor upgrades (#fps is the one thing I can think of that improved). Otherwise, they seem to be the same camera.
I have used the D600 for night sky photography, and it performed very well. Here is a link to my gallery of night sky images that were taken with the D600, just so you can see what is possible:

Brilliant photos nbanjogal! That's the kind of photos I would love to take. Now, here's the funny thing. I posted this in the wrong forum lol!!! That question was meant for the Nikon Df announcement and talk. Seeing what the D600 can do with someone who knows what they are doing is truly stunning though. I'll get back to working on my technique (and figuring out what I'm doing) on my D3200 for now but boy oh boy it's nice to see what can be done with any and all of this gear. The D600/610 looks like a very nice option if/when I decide to go to full frame. Thank you very much

That's funny, Cliff! Well, I have no doubt the DF can do night sky photography. I believe it has the same sensor as the D4...
And the D600/610 is definitely a great option when you're ready to go full frame.

If Nikon realize the problems they had in D600 and rectified all the issues in the update, then it will be an awesome cam

It is an awsome camera...not all had the issue and the issue is easy to fix if your D600 has the issue...neither of mine have the issue...at least not yet...

I think I'm in love with this camera. Unfortunately Santa didn't get my letter (or maybe I was a bad boy last year!)

Small and light camera. Sits just right in my hands.
For Pentax convert it's just fine regarding spedd, accuracy and weight. Maybe general feeling (plastics) could be better (comparing to cameras like k-5)

The D610 would be an absolute dream to own. I work with special needs kids and using it to photograph their successes in Unified Basketball would be HUGE for the program, and this is just the camera for the job.
