I just started taking an interest in photography and my kids gave me an older Nikon D40 camera to learn the ropes for a bit and then I am set on buying a D7200.   But I notice the software in the camera is 1.0 both for A and B.   The current is 1.12 but reading I am suppose to upgrade to 1.11 first.

Following the steps from this link https://nikoneurope-...24413/related/1

However when I get to turning the camera back on and going to Firmware Version I don't have the Version Up option.

Any advice out there.    I also tried using this link but I come up with the same.  http://www.nikonsupp...win_en_ABF.html

The most common issue users run in to is incorrect placement of the .bin files.  They have to be in the very top level of your SD card, outside of the DCIM folder.

I would use the camera with its current firmware version unless there is some need to upgrade it.  Even if you want to upgrade it, I would be sure everything is working before diving into the update...With any electronics, I want a firm, known base before I do any upgrading...

Well people and for those that  helped me  I was downloading the bin file for a Nikon D40.     My camera is a D40x.   I guess that makes a big difference
