I currently have a D70 with the updated software and am looking for the next step up on the Nikon ladder.  I have very limited funds, and would like to find a camera that will accommodates my current D70 lenses.  Can members please recommend a model that I can move up to?  Thanks.

I'd look at either the D5500 from the mid-range series (or D5300 if the former is too expensive), or the D7100 from the advanced series.

Hello Steve,  here is a link to a Nikon Compatibility Chart (Lenses to cameras).  Once you are on  the site, scroll down to DLRs, find the D70 with other Nikon models, then go across the top to find what is compatible with a camera you are looking for.

Hope this helps, Tony

I've just upgraded from a D80 to a secondhand D7000 body. I went for the D7k because I use the D80 cls flash system and didn't want to lose the remote flash options.

Are your current lenses AF or AF-S? The D3xxx and D5xxx series' need AF-S to autofocus. A D90, D300 or D300s are quite a step up from the D70 without breaking the bank. The D7000 has a higher resolution but not neccessarily better image quality than the 12 MP bodies. If you want to film, rather than shoot stills, the D90 is the earliest that supports screw-drive lenses (the D300 doesn't have a movie mode).

I was using a D90 last year and think you would like it's performance.  But pay critical attention to what Peter said about lenses in order to maximize you upgrade.

The D90 does have live view, however it does not have auto-focus lock while in the Live View Mode.  This does make it quite cumbersome trying to film people as they are moving about.  Hope this helps.

Thanks, everyone, for the help with lenses for a D70 replacement.  Sorry for the late response, but I appreciate your making your expertise available.

I just got a used D7200 after using the D70 for many years. The D7200 is great!
