Just purchased D5500. Can I clear (not reset camera back to factory settings) recent settings (aperture, ISO, etc) when Ifinish shooting for the day so I won't forget the next time I pick up the camera? In other words, these type of temporary settings would go back to default but I can still keep my camera settings when I set the camera up?

First post on the forum .... thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to the Forums!

Are you shooting in manual?  If so, just change to the settings you want before you turn it off and they will be set when you turn it on...

I typically don't worry about that as I'm adjusting those settings (aperture, shutter, ISO) for the shoot before I dive in during most situations as lighting, etc. will be different.  That said, after dumping images onto my system and getting them backed up, I usually put the card back into the camera and format it so it is ready to go for the next shoot.  At that point, I sometimes adjust those settings if I know what / where I'm going to be shooting next to save time.  Sometimes that isn't even required if I am shooting in similar lighting conditions (night football, indoor gym, daytime game, etc.).

If you aren't shooting in manual, your camera is going to continue to use the settings that you have set the last time, adjusting whatever is automatic to your settings.  I had one camera that I used to always set to Program mode when I stopped using it.  Other members of my family used the camera and I always left it there so they could just pick it up and shoot even though I rarely used Program mode myself.

Hope that helps!  If not, give us more details and I'm sure we can assist!
