Does anyone else have a problem with a 300mm f/2.8D ED-IF II AF-S Nikkor lens not Auto focusing mounted on a D750. I have over a half dozens other Nikkor lenses both D and G that focus fine. Also have the same problem with the D810 when I use this lens with my teleconverters. Without the teleconverters it with AF fine on the D810.

Which teleconverter or teleconverters?  Have you confirmed that they are approved to work with the 300 2.8 and / or the bodies in combo?  I have used that lens on various bodies, but not with a TC...

Have you cleaned the contacts? One pair is assigned to the high current for the focus motor, I don't remember which it is and I am not at my usual computer where I have the pinout... It is not unusual to lose AF without the f-- indication if those two are oxidized or contaminated. Try cleaning them with De-Oxit if you can get some, otherwise isoptopyl alcohol can be used, even if it doesn't give the oxide protection of the specialized cleaner.

Yes all the teleconverters are compatible with this lens. Also the Nikon specs say that this lens is compatible with both the D810 and D750. As far as the contacts if I put a Vello AF Extension Tube on the lens it will auto focus. Same with the teleconverters. I have had Nikon since 1969 and if they keep screwing with me I'll switch to Canon.

Sounds like oxide... The fingers can hit very close but not exactly the same and miss the worn and oxidised part. IME Canon EF mounts are just as susceptible to oxide as any other. I clean the contacts on my lenses and bodies once a year and haven't had contact issues since I started this regimen. Cleaning the contacts on 5 AF bodies and a suitcase full of AF lenses takes about an hour.
