Beautiful location! I like what's going on in the right half of the photo so I probably would try an 8x10 crop of that area (I know it's a pretty aggressive crop for a D700 but still good for websized photos) and exclude both the cabana (looks like a lifeguard station to me) and tree trunk.

To me, the silhouetted kids in the water should be the main subject and you don't need the other two elements in the frame. If there was a silhouetted lifeguard in the cabana, that would add to the story and then I'd say keep it.. but since it's empty, I would try cropping. Much less Photoshopping required! :)

I'm wondering what this image would look like as monochrome? I think with the right filter to accentuate the cabana rather than having it a block of shadow, it could work.

You were brave to go first, as until we get other photos to critique, everyone is going to keep commenting on yours!

I like the image, but that tree cuts the image into 2 distinct portions, moving further right and stepping back would have balanced your shot out and still got in the wonderful scene of the kids and the sunset. The timber structure alone would make a great subject shot from the left as you would have wonderful soft golden light kissing the timber.

i like the photo even with the tree . i tend to think  someone mighta gotten annoyed if ya rocked up with a chainsaw and cut it down  just to make  the photo better,   so i would maybe have moved up a bit  to the right and excluded both tree and cabana, if it worries you.

Like Mark commented, the tree needs cutting down, but this to me is a stunning picture that tells a story.
