hi all.. im a new photographer and i have bought a D3200 to use to learn on.. my question is.. will an FX lense work ok on my D3200.??  At the moment i just have the kit lense 18-55mm AF-S DX lense and i can get a nikkor 70-300mm AF-FX format. i know that the FX lense is manual focus which im not bothered about. will the 70-300 AF lense have a crop factor and will it make everything closer to say like 105-450mm?? thanks for any help.. i know that DX lenses will have a vignetting effect on an FX body but will i be ok to use the FX lense on my DX d3200.. thanks

FX lenses will work just fine on DX.  They are generally larger than DX lenses must most will also get you better image quality since you'll only be using the "sweet spot" :)

Don't worry about the crop factor.  An FX 70-300mm will give you exactly the same field of view on your D3200 as a DX 70-300mm would.

Also, that particular lens should autofocus just fine, assuming it's the current model.

Agreed...No real need to worry about it...the "crop factor" is actually is related to the sensor and not the lens.  On any DX body, you will get a crop factor of around 1.5 so as you suggested, the "effective" reach of the lens would be 105-450.  The only time I have even noticed the difference in terms of shooting was when I was shooting two bodies - one DX and one FX...other than that, you are still shooting and using the zoom and / or your feet to frame things the way you want them framed...

I used the Nikkor AF-S VR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED on my 3100 and it worked perfectly. Not sure if this is the same lens you are looking to get but it'll work just fine with the D3200.

Your D3200 will work *fully* with any AF-S lens, meter with any AF lens and mount but not meter with any Nikon F-mount lens except some very esoteric super-wideangles from the 60-s. It will use the VR on any lens that has it. AFAIK it doesn't even have the problems with reverse-engineered third-party lenses that the later consumer bodies have as the extended communication protocol didn't exist yet.
