Looking at the nikon store sale on refurbished lenses for this weekend. Are these a good deal, or should I buy new? 90 day warrenty vs 1 year.
Thanks,

Hi Bob,
I recently started to convert from Pentax to Nikon. To save some money, I purchased a refurbished AF-S 70-200mn F4 about two weeks ago. The order process was easy, the shipping was fast, and the lens was expertly packed. The 90 day warranty was the only downside. But, in my case, I have no qualms about purchasing even used lenses on eBay, as long as it can be returned to the seller, the seller is rated 99.8 or higher, and the lens is in near-mint condition and is priced significantly lower than a new model.
The comfort with the warranty situation is something only you can decide. In my case it was worth it to save $300.

That is a wise decision, because typically if anything goes awry with the item it is usually within the warranty period. I have been a Nikon supporter for more years than I care to admit, however I have had nothing but good results with their refurbished products. Seems to me that once the item is brought up to factory specs., there shouldn't be any issues down the road. Regards, Tony
I have heard the same as OTR...However, I have never actually purchased a refurbished lens. Not because I don't trust them but rather because I haven't found the right deal vs. other options. As an example, I have purchased used gear (bodies and lenses) from both KEH and B&H either because I felt the deal was better or that Nikon didn't have the same gear refurbished at the time. I have received exactly what I expected based on those purchases from both companies and the ratings they gave the equipment I purchased. I would not hesitate to purchase refurbished gear from Nikon if I found the right deal, but that is really something someone has to decide for themselves based on their comfort level. For me, once I've decided, I pay my money and take my chances on the choice I make. I also make sure to give the equipment a decent workout within the return / warranty period to be sure I'm comfortable with my choice.
