Sometime before midnight (whatever time zone you are in) this Sunday, 10 May 2015, post the best photo you have taken this week. Any subject, any style--just give us your best shot.

If you can, list your EXIF info and any special lighting setups you may have used.

And come join us in the editing exercise…Open to anyone, and a great place to learn.

Guess I'll start it off this week...

Sharing a photo from the astrophotography class I just finished. This is the Whirlpool Galaxy (M-51), taken with a CCD camera attached to a telescope (12-inch? can't remember).

Quite the procedure capturing it and then processing (used a program called MaxIm DL). This is about 27 images stacked.

Hi all . It's been a while since I had anything to post. I haven't been shooting much lately with all of life going on lately. My eldest Granddaughter had a formal dace tonight and asked if Grandpa would  her. I don't usually do portraits so I am not very good at it.

For the moment the rapeseed fields allow for having landscape captures with a bright yellow.

But I felt that this scene also benefited from the white house and the way leading to it.

Also with a CCD camera!

Nikkor 10.5cm F2.5 wide-open, Nikkor Y52 deep yellow filter, M Monochrom. This 60 year old lens gets a lot of use.

Now I know why they call them Caterpillars. This one has the hair on his back raised up, maybe ready to pounce?

We visited Butterfly Wonderland, Scotsdale, AZ., yesterday.  So many excellent opportunities to practice shooting small moving objects.  This particular butterfly has such beautiful wings as do so many others.

Well, I've gotten through a few of the photos...

Last weekend were the last games for the four seniors in my photos from last week.  They lost both games on Saturday and won both on Sunday.  One of the seniors had the best game of his career in the first game on Sunday.  He asked the coach to sit him in the second game so he could end on his best game.  He got up to bat 5 times and got a hit in every one of his at bats.  The photo below is the ball coming off his bat - the last swing of his college career...for those who know baseball / softball, in his last at bat, he hit a grand slam!

BillGrandSlam-8626.jpg

D4, ISO 400, 200-400 at 200mm, 1/3200

Two other shots I liked of the few I've been able to edit...

The first - ball coming off the bat - very little crop to remove the catcher's mitt...love the slight bend in the bat from the contact...

Ty-7156.jpg

D4, ISO 400, 200-400 with 1.4TC effectively at 280mm, f5.6, 1/2000

I had the TC on to see what I could get with some real close ups on the infield and to get closer to the OF.  Only used it on Saturday...didn't end up putting it on for Sunday...

Love the baseball pics.  What a great way to end his college career.  The Dbacks should sign him, they need some good bats.

You never know what will happen...each June about 1500 "kids" (18-25 year olds) from high school and college get drafted and there aren't that many who make it all the way to the big leagues...he had a pretty good year though...ended up batting .407 and zero errors as the first baseman over 40+ games...

My nephew earned a full boat scholarship to Okla State and ended up a banker.  I thought for sure he was destined for the biggs.
