Hello everyone,

I've been using Canon Power-shots (a-40 AND a-720) for the last 10 or so years.  I recently purchased a Nikon Coolpix S9700 because it was the only compact camera that provided a "grip" for me to hold onto when shooting.  I have limited sensation in my fingers and need to have a "purchase" on the camera body that (up to now) Canon Sure-Shot's provided so well.

I'm very pleased with the "feel" of my new Nikon.  Although the Canonn provided more features than the Coolpix, the features that are present meet my needs.

I hope I have many years of good experience with the Nikon Coolpix.

Just as an aside, my first "serious" camera was a Honeywell Pentax Spotmatic that I acquired for a couple of photography courses (ca. 1974) I took at college.  I can't handle the weight of a DSLR (unfortunately) because of limitations with my hand and so need to use "mass-market" compact cameras.

I will post (in a second posting) a question about the wi-fi on the Coolpix. I couldn't find the answer in the online manual or on the "quick start" guide that came with the camera.

Regards,

Michele (kickstand447)

Welcome aboard, look forward to seeing some photos with the Coolpix.

I think a number of us on the forum started out with classic SLR's of the 60s and 70s. I use the Pentax 50/1.4 originally from the Spotmatic on a Leica Rangefinder, modified it myself.

I was hoping to start a new topic with my question, but see that I can't.  So I will ask it here.

I cannot get my Coolpix S9700 wi-fi to connect to my smart device (in this case, my Samsung  smartphone).

I have an SD card in the camera's slot. It tries to make the connection to the device, but never does. After 3 (?) minutes it times out with no connections made.

The one thing I noticed is that the Password field of my Wi-fi Settings is blank.  And I can find no way to enter a password anywhere on the camera's setting.  Perhaps this is what the problem is? No password?

This YouTube video makes it look seamless.  But I can't get it to work.  I've reset ALL the options on the camera to the Factory Default several times.

While wi-fi isn't essential for my use, I can see some advantages.

Does anyone have any solutions?

TIA

Michele (Kickstand447)

I too have wifi on my D750 but have not tried to hook it up yet, so no help here.
