Sometime before midnight (whatever time zone you are in) this Sunday, 28 December, post the best photo you have taken this week. Any subject, any style--just give us your best shot.

PS: If you can, list your EXIF info and any special lighting setups you may have used.

PPS: Make sure you check out our challenge to post your best photos of 2014: Your Best Photos of 2014 - Mini-Challenges, Member Contests, and Games - NikonForums.com

An early one for me this week as I am moving house and can't imagine I will be taking too many photos later on...

Helios Ella by Crew One Photography, on Flickr

Nikon D810, Zenit Helios 44m-6 58mm f2 (what?), maybe f2.4, 1/1000, ISO 200

The Helios lens may not be as well known here in Nikon Land but back over in Pentax World it holds a special place in their hearts. It's an old soviet era (although this version is relatively new) lens. It has that certain look and charm that classic lenses have. It is also famous for it's "swirly" bokeh. I have had an M42 to F mount adapter sitting waiting for use every since I got my Nikon gear but only now just got around to trying it. And I'm thrilled that this works perfectly including focus to infinity (some adapters don't do this). It is really nice to finally use this on a full frame camera with it's intended focal length. I enjoy this lens so much I have another 44m-2 which is supposedly superior to my version coming from eBay. Plus an M42 macro Takumar 50mm f4 (fixed aperture) coming too, that I love.

More helios here.

My first SLR was a Zenit E...with a 50 f2...Sounds like we can add another to the relocation group!  Good luck with the new place!

This picture shows architecture spanning nearly 2,000 years, the tower is part Roman which has been incorporated into medieval arches which led to the West Gate of Exeter. It is still being used as part of the walkways of the town.Sensible planning. That's why it's my favourite of the week(I was on my way way to pick up my new(used) Nikon D90 this morning)

Adding a second one

F41DfRZ.jpg

D610 Nikkor 28/1.8 28mm f5.6 1/125@ISO200

It is an emergency exit staircase along a glass facade.
The staircase was reflecting on the glass and capturing the picture next to the glass allowed to have this direct transition between the physical staircase and its reflection.

Learned about the golden hour on this forum.  First time out to give it a try.  WOW!!  Love the blue sky.

D5300 f/11 4s, ISO 3200 (Should have tried a lower ISO and slower shutter)

Eagle

I got this one just as it took off from its perch. I thought it was a Hawk at first, but i guess its am adolescent eagle. Theres two pairs of nesting eagles about 5 minutes from home and they both have young ones.

Took these on Christmas day but time got away from me...meant to get them up yesterday, but spent most of the day unpacking and organizing...My son and his girlfriend wanted me to get some Christmas photos of them...we started in the new back yard - never really got going although I got a couple of photos as we dodged the dogs running and playing...Pix were taken with my D600 and 24-70 and ISO 400...

Christmas14-5181.jpg

Caught them laughing at the dogs f5.6, 1/160

Christmas14-5201.jpg

The dogs are best friends - our puppy rescue, Lexi and our son's Great Dane, Zeus...snapped this when they stopped for a moment (f5.6, 1/125)

Christmas14-5205.jpg

Moments later, they were back at it (f5.6, 1/100) - all in fun - no pets were injured in the play :)

I then suggested we move to the front of the house and I grabbed the following shot with them sitting in a rocker on the front porch...f5.6, 1/100

Christmas14-5207.jpg

While we were waiting for our younger son to join us, I grabbed this one of my older son as he was walking down the stairs...f5.6, 1/125

Christmas14-5221.jpg

Younger son finally joined and I stood in the yard to get this photo of the three of them on the porch...f5.6, 1/125

Christmas14-5229.jpg

I was having some issues with my flash that I need to look into...finally got it working for the last two shots...probably need to do some more post-processing on a few of them, but at least got them in for the week!  It was a fun Christmas in the new house...and slowly getting organized!  I get the whole week down here in NC before I have to head back to work in VA next week...they're letting me work from here this week...hopefully that convinces them that I can do it full time!
