Hi  there,

The AF on my D7000 not working properly with my AF-S 300mm F4 after using a TC-14 E II.

It worked OK with the TC for about a day, then AF wouldn't work.

I have returned the TC.

I occasionlly can get the AF working, but generally it is not usable.

Have had no AF issues before buying the TC-14E ii.

My other AF-S lenses work fine on the D7000, and the 300 F4 works fine on my D300 (forgot how slow it is).

I have cleaned contacts, done a 2 button reset, and updated the firmware, all to no avail.

There is no Nikon service in Darwin, and I'm not keen to send them away for weeks.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I think it could be that ther was not enough light.

Plenty of light, the lens works fine on my D300, even in low light.

Could it have been a faulty TC?  Did you buy a refurb by any chance?  I've had bad experiences with refurbs in the past...

Hi Adam,

I tend to agree, which is why I returned the TC.

It was second hand, and appeared to be in good condition.

I tested the TC on my D7000 with another lens at a local camera shop, and it worked fine.

When the AF is working on my D7000 (with the 300/4), it works fine.

It stops working once the light meter goes off.

If I re-mount the lens it will sometimes work again.

I have been trying to find out how to do a hard reset, because I reckon it may be a software issue.

Regards Brian...

That's strange- perhaps someone else will be able to help you out if they've experienced something similar.  Have you upgraded the camera to the latest firmware and cleaned all of the lens contacts?

Your spot on Adam, it is very strange, especially since it works fine on my D300.

The last thing I tried was updating the firmware to 1.04, (thought that was my best chance).

I have cleaned the contacts several times, it does seem to be a connection or recognition issue.

Hopefully someone has an answer.

Now you have me worried, I have the same lens, and same TC.  I was planning on using them together for some bird shots, but now I'm not so sure...

Mine failed within 24 hours, so if you have used yours for longer than that, it's probably OK.

If the AF stops working with the TC attached, then maybe you should stop using it.

Update: I tried the lens on a new D7000, and the AF didn't work, still works fine on my D300.

I'm now thinking the problem appears to be with the lens, and newer cameras.
