I've been using Photoshop since version 1, and any time I shoot raw, and tried to use Photoshop, I get the box that says I don't have the plug-in to open them.

Any suggestions for plug-ins with PS CS5?

You need to install/download Adobe Camera Raw.  It should have been included with your copy of photoshop- it sure came with mine!

Wow!  Thanks Adam.  Okay, apparently I wasn't telling the right story.  I do have Adobe Camera Raw, version 6.0.0.205.  But it tells me that my camera is not availble.

The dialogue box actually says that my camera is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw.

BUT... I just checked and my PS along with Camera Raw needs to be updated!  I feel really stupid right about now!  I'm doing the upgrade and hopefully this will fix the problem.

Thanks again Adam for your quick attention to this!  I'll let the forum know the results.

I installed the upgrade, and I believe I'll be shooting raw from now on!

Okay, this site was worth it just so I could find out I needed a software update!!!!

Thanks again Adam!

When you update your camera and CS5 will no longer load your raw files (even if it's updated to the max) you will need to either update your version of PS, OR download the Adobe DNG converter which will convert your NEF files to DNG files, which will htne load in ACR.

Another option is to use Lightroom as a plug in to convert your files you can then send them to finish off the edit in Photoshop the problem then vanishes as you bypass camera raw totally

This is what I usually do.   I shoot all of my shots in RAW, then load them into PS through Lightroom.

So do I I find the LR sotware easier to work with anyway Must admit the original idea ws someonwe who at the time couldnt afford to upgrade cs4 to 5 but got a DSLR not supported but they had Lightroom they found they could import from LR and it didnt matterthat their camera wasnt supported
