You can go to Ebay.com or amazon.com. Heck, go to www.bhphotovideo.com or Adorama, there are plenty of websites to go to.

Be careful and do check the price of Nikon lenses when you get one just because here 3rd party dosnt always mean there cheaper!!!as an example 35mmdx lens Nikon 1.8 £150 sigma 35mm f1.4 £700 while the sigma is a full rame lens for a stop if you own a dx camera is it really worth over 4 times the cost

+1 for Adorama and eBay. I know this site is supported by B&H, another great vendor, so check them out too.
I prefer Adorama because the sell these handy "kits".
I just bought a new Sigma 18-250 OS Macro w/ UV filter, lens keeper and complete cleaning kit for $348 delivered. That's $2 less than the competition and you get a bunch of very useful goodies in the mix.

I am very much a beginner in this whole lens thing and one of my lens is a Sigma. Realise that this is a Nikon site, but how do Sigma lens stand up to against Nikon lens?
How about buying second hand lens, is this advised and how do you know whether the lens is ok, what are the traps to avoid?

Lately they have been producing some real winners, but some of their older stuff is hit and miss. Their new 35mm/1.4 has been called the best 35mm ever made, by any manufacturer. I saw a test where it bested the Leica, handily. What focal lengths are you looking for in particular? FX or DX? Zooms or primes?

Yep ... I had to return one of their newer 18-250's because of a decentered lens element. The second copy was spot-on and a really great bargain for a walk-around lens.

The internet is your friend. I google and price compare. I go into the stores as well and chat to the staff (if they seem knowledge able). Having a good store to shop from will give you great support. Finding a cheap place to buy from will save you money. Some of the websites I've used are... http://cameraparadis...dex/index.php?z and Get value for shower taps at Value Basket Renovation
There are bargains out there. Just make sure you research your lens (so know what you want). There are lenses that seem to be very similar but when you look at the tech sheet are totally different lenses. So you may think you're getting a bargain when you're not.
I have Sigma and Nikon lenses. At the higher end Sigma lenses are cheaper and equal in quality. Some of the Sigma lenses are the best on the market (the 35mm). Once again, do your research. What do you want the lens for? Will you need Zoom or Prime? What are you shooting? The more you know, the easier it is to find what you want.
Good luck.

The newer third party lenses like Sigma are very good. If you buy one that was made 10 years ago you are taking a gamble.
Yes until recent times Sigma's quality control was horrific.

Yep! I have some older Vivitar gear laying around from my 35mm days. Actually I think I have one of their CP Filters on a lens right now

I shot several weddings with my Vivitar 285s and my old Pentax MXs.
I don't think I've ever owned a Sigma lens though. I did have Tamrons most recently but have sold them all off. I definitely think my Nikkor 24-70 is better than the Tamron version and I'm glad I upgraded.

Sigma is pushing the limits and are showing to have better quality glass then Nikon and Canon now at much lower prices. This is shown in there new line of Art lenses in particular. They are fantastic value.
