Question about new D850 -   I see that it has internal electronic VR in HD recording mode only.   Is it possible for Nikon to release a firmware update in the future that will allow for 4K recording with VR active??   Thanks

You can always use VR in the lens, which is the way to go in general.  Electronic stabilization otherwise greatly degrades image quality, so it should be avoided when that's your goal (i.e. the reason for choosing 4K to begin with).

I Have had a fascination with photography for forty odd years, sadly I let it slide and now due to the relatively low cost of digital I am now just getting back into photographing whatever catches my fancy.

Ditto Muttwerx! Greetings to my fellow Nikonians from northern Fauquier County in the Virginia Piedmont region. I too resisted going digital for many years until I finally broke down and started with the Coolpix P5100 which was an awesome little camera and great for traveling with. Now I use the Coolpix P (for "Performance") 7100 for copy work and portability uses. For many years I used the D 200 and it istill a fine camera. More recently I have added a D 300 and a D7100 and a gorgeous "silk, sex and sugar" (as Ken Wheeler, aka "the angry photographer on You Tube likes to say) lens from Japan: the 105 mm AF- D macro/portrait lens.

I am interested in the history of photography and hope to learn from everybody and to contribute to the discussion of the peculiar combination of technical and aesthetic issues which we as photographers today face in the digital era.

And while I must admit to a bit of lust in my heart, no I won't be getting a D 850 anytime soon. I never wanted to make murals!

Hi adem188,

According to the main page, there are over 16000 members.  Some of us are more active than others, but we have a great group of folks who are quite willing to help out and share information...

Hello. Thanks for adding me to the forum. I have been a  film photographer since the 1970's, using various equipment: Minolta, Canon, Pentax, Nikon. I have been doing some digital for about 10 years, and have finally purchased a Nikon DSLR. Hopefully, there will be helpful information here, and I can provide some as well.

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum, hoping to learn a few tips with digital photography. I used to do a lot of film photography back in the 80s until life pretty much got in the way. Just picked up a D3400 and trying to get used to the new camera and the new technology. I love scenic/nature stuff, and have been playing around a bit with some night shots as well, still very much a work in progress on that end.

Hi I am Del. Have been using d300 and d500 but due to working away from home didn’t find much time to take photos.

I have traded in my gear to trade up to full frame D810 and I now find myself working closer to home and more time available.

I joined the forum to gain more tips on full frame photography

Hi all,

I live in Tokyo. I changed to Nikon about a year ago as part of getting more serious about my photography. I have a D7500, which I find to be great.

Looking forward to communicating with other users.

Hi. My name is Al and I like to take pictures.

I've been into photography for about 60 years; 3 or 5 of them professionally.

I bought my first Nikon at 17 and never looked back.

I'm looking to finally learn what the heck I'm doing. Or at least hang out with people who are doing the same.

I'm George, new to this site, new to NIKON camera.

I joined this site because I want some help with running ViewNX2.  I shot some photos, in RAW format.  ViewNX2 finds the photos on my computer, but I cannot edit the photos.  The ADJUSTMENTS window shows scroll bars for changing features such as white balance, but they are greyed out and do not move when I click and drag.  Any suggestions?
