Sometime before midnight (whatever time zone you are in) this Sunday, 9 November, post the best photo you have taken this week. Any subject, any style--just give us your best shot.

PS: If you can, list your EXIF info and any special lighting setups you may have used.

PPS: Don't forget to try out the editing mini-challenge.

I'll start off this week with a photo I took last weekend at Poco Diablo Resort, Sedona, AZ.  There is a small pond, on the golf curse, outside our room.

It was late in the day and I was walking around taking photos of the surrounding red rock formations in glow of the early evening.

Afterimage, how exactly did you botch this shot? I think it looks pretty darn good!

And Daniel, how did you manage to capture Las Vegas looking empty???? Very cool image!

Wrong aperture here so the ducks aren't clear close up, but as long as you don't pixel peep, I like the shot ;).

A product shot from me this week.

gallery_1251_413_7538.jpg

Body: D700
Flash: Two studio flashes, camera left in a 48" octabox and camera right in a standard 32" softbox. About equal distance and 1/3 more exposure on the left head.
Lens: 50/1.8D
Aperture: f/4.5
Shutter: 1/30
ISO:200
Profile:D2X Mode3

This is the engine that gave me my nick in the mid 90-s, the Merco 61 SS from the Premier Plastics era. That small piece of aluminium on the exhaust stack is the silencer and lowers the noise by over 12 dB!

I dropped  in on a film class given by a friend of mine yesterday. Class was getting the exposure right.  I took my FE and one roll of film. It is being processed . I also took my D70. These are two of his students. The poor fellow. First his in camera meter died then after shooting his roll of film. The rewind evidently wasn't right ,so he opened the back of his camera before asking us if there was a way to do it and save the film. The film had been pulled out of the canister.

The sunlight had all the leaves at the top of the trees glowing with color while the trunks were very contrasty and dark. To post-process the file you have to tweak the settings in such a way that it basically over-exposes the shot. The tree trunks and the sun bloom really should have been more subtle. I might try to fix it all in post but I suspect that will be a boat load of work.

I like the contrast of the dark trunks and the bright leaves.  I think it makes the photo more interesting.

That sure brings back memories. I grew up in Indiana. My brother and my  job was plowing and discing behind dad on the picker / combine So that we could get the winter wheat in in time.

So at the last football game I shot, I had some focus issues with my 24-70...like it didn't seem to want to focus...Spent some time this morning checking it out and threw it on my D4 so I could shoot some fall color.  No problems...a few of the photos:

Loved the way the light hit this branch:

And lastly, a close up of one of the leaves...

I was finally able to get out and get some shots today.  Work has been brutal lately.  Took a walk through the campus of our local jr college (actually, one of the 6 campuses).

Caught this little clown spying on me.

Last week I was insanely busy with my camera. This week…almost nothing. Insanely busy with other stuff, unfortunately.

Tonight our good friend who is a fiber artist came over to teach my husband how to use the spinning wheel.

D600, Nikkor 24-70mm, f/2.8, 1/125, ISO 3200

And since we were getting all noisy with that high ISO, I decided to bring in a light stand and bounce a flash off the ceiling for the rest of the shots I was grabbing (and they were quick snaps since I was in the middle of making dinner--I'm looking forward to getting more images of the spinning wheel when I can concentrate on photographing it). Here's one with light. :)
