I use DxO 9 on nearly every photograph. DxO 8 does not have the noise removal capability that DxO 9 does, but even so for photos that are not noisy it's highly recommended. If you don't know DxO X is not an editor pre se. It's more of a photo correction app. Then if you want to edit you'd want to move your DxO corrected photo to your favorite photo editor app.

Below is the kind of work DxO does. Too bad you can't see the photos at 100%. The DxO photo is completely devoid of noise. The algorithm DxO uses is based on their research from my particular camera body and my particular lens. It works well at default and gets better through manual adjustment.

I just got the OnOne Perfect Photo Suite 9 upgrade last night and it too has a noise reduction component that is claimed to be very good. I haven't tested it out yet but it would be interesting to compare these two products side-by-side on the same image.

I have an overclocked Haswell I7 wicked fast ASUS mobo based PC that I process photos on. DxO has a noise reduction setting on raw photos called prime. Even with all the processing power I have a prime noise reduction photo still takes 2 to 5 minutes to process, but the outcome in my opinion is worth it.

Sounds a bit like my Photoshop Box I7-4770K on an Asus Z87+ motherboard.
I just did a spot test with OnOne against a very noisy ISO-5000 jpeg from a D7000 and 50mm f1.8 lens - the results were nearly instantaneous (2-3 seconds?) and surprisingly good. I'll have to find a RAW image and try again to see what the processing time is like.

Our rigs/boxes sound a lot alike. My mobo is an Asus Z87 deluxe dual (also I7 4770k OC'd to 3.4 GHz) with 20 MB Ram and 500 MB SSD with two 1 TB hard drives. Love that USB 3 capability! For some reason DxO does not noise reduce jpegs. It only noise reduces on raw files. That's ok 9 times out of 10 I create my jpegs from raw files via DxO anyway.

I didn't mean to come across as a salesman for DxO. I've just been using Optics Pro since version 7 and am a believer in their research and thereby software plugin modules for specific camera bodies and lenses. When I purchased optics pro 8 I paid a few dollars more for lifetime upgrades for free so to speak. As such I take the upgrades not knowing anything about them. I don't think they even offer that anymore. I don't have any abstract for you, but you can always go to their web site. However, I did notice Prime denoising is faster and the new haze removal feature works very well.

I guess they made v8 for free to be an apetizer, knowing that they are going to launch v10. Still it is a nice offer to have it for free, as even v8 can help of pre-processing photos.
I have been going to their site and indeed they give a short insight, even so at first glance nothing as dealbreaking as was the denoiser in v9.

Yes there is a big difference between versions 8 and 9. The GUI is even way different. Even so to get version 8 for nothing is great. I would venture to bet that once you have version 8 installed and are registered you'll get at least a 50% discount for upgrading to version 10. Your mileage may vary!

Thanks for starting this topic Jerry I have been looking at the product and was thinking of purchasing it but was wondering if the program was worth it.

Well, you were right. I just got the email offering $100 off their software suite. Not quite 50% but pretty close

It wasn't too hard to predict. I get the same type deals not only from DxO, but Adobe, Microsoft, Oracle, Sony creative, Agile and more.
