Decided to give a crack at doing something a bit different... errrr... well, doing something I haven't done in a long time but putting a new eye and some genuine effort to it. I guess that's a better way of explaining what I'm up to. A ways back I would try to capture song lyrics in my photography, most of the time by just giving an image a title that vaguely matched. Sometimes it worked, others it was obviously forced. Actually, most of the time it was forced
So... I captured an image Saturday evening and said damn that is really close to the mood of that song I like, it's just missing something to bring it all together. A few hours later, with the help of coffee, some stock photography, a lot of Photoshop, and a new painting program I created this test version just to check the viability of my idea. Still need to work on the mood and texturing but I "think" I'm heading in the right direction.
So, with all that babble out of the way, I present the early mock up of "The Last Pale Light in the West"
And for those interested, here's the song I am drawing inspiration from:

In my hands, I hold the ashes
In my veins, black pitch runs
In my chest, a fire catches
In my way, a setting sun
Dark clouds gather 'round me
To the west, my soul is bound
And I will go on ahead, free
There's a light yet to be found
The last pale light in the west
