We used to run into this problem as well. We found a solution in a forum Plug-In that, among other useful things, wouldn't let people vote in polls until they had X number of posts and/or had X number of days registered with the site. I think it was called "Pole Position".  It would even show you what percentage of their time on the site was voting for a poll. You could set it to send an email to an admin if someone had say 80% activity in "poll topics". Invariably people would go through and write "nice" and "beautiful" a dozen times just to increase their post count so they could participate in the poll... that plug-in wasn't fooled for a second LOL.

 

 

I'm not sure what software you're using... VBulletin?... but you might want to look into it if it becomes habitual. It's crazy what people will do for a pack of bubble gum let alone a gift card...
