I have a question that I was wondering if anyone else has any experience with. I recently purchased a D7000. I love this thing and have gotten down most of the features and what not. My question is this. I currently have it set so that the first card captures Raw and the second card captures Jpeg. I do this because I have what is essentially a cam ranger (actually a hacked 3040 wireless modem and dslr dashboard.) and it sends the jpegs to my tablet. I can send the raw files but being as they are large and I don't want to eat all the space up after taking a few pictures I have the jpegs sent.

Problem is I don't want the reviews in camera to show both photos. It may seem stupid but it get's pretty annoying going through what I have shot and having to scroll through both the raw and the jpegs and deleting is just as annoying. Is there a way to set it so that it only shows either one or the other or do you have to review both? Essentially can it just simply use the jpegs as backups without me having to worry about them. If that doesn't make sense let me know and I can try to reword. Thanks in advance.

I used to have the D7000 and I don't remember the camera displaying the RAW and then the JPG as you reviewed the images. I tested this on my D7100 and it only shows 1 version of the file ... the jpg. If this is the case there HAS to be a setting in the menu that is telling the camera to display one or both.

Alternatively you could make use of the dual SD slots- one for the RAW and the other for the JPG. During the review you should only be seeing the files from Slot1. Here's how to do this in the menu:

Menu>Shooting Menu>Role Played by Card in Slot 2> Overflow, Or Backup, Or RAW Slot 1, JPEG Slot 2

Are you speaking of the display on the camera's LCD?  Is it displaying both automatically when you take a photo or is it showing both when you do a manual review?  I found the automatic display rather annoying where it would display each image after a shot (note - I was shooting JPEG or RAW, not both) so I just turned off the automatic part...If I want to look at an image after I've shot it, I just go find it manually.  Doing that, with one or both formats, I can scroll back manually to find the image I want to check.  Even if I'm shooting in both formats, I only see each image once when I review (this is true for my D7000, D600 and D4)...

It's the same thing with the Wi-Fi module! The software on the smart phone (or whatever) only reads from slot 1. If you have that slot set up for raw you have to remember to switch the cards or you'll be downloading the much larger raw file. You would think by now somebody at Nikon would have picked up on that especially since I emailed them about it, but the latest release of the software still does it!

There are quite possibly two sides to the fix.  One being the software on the phone / tablet that would have to have the option to select the card slot and the other on the camera which allows that slot to be selected.  The WiFi itself shouldn't care what card slot since it is strictly handling the communication.  Likely it is just the phone software that would need to be updated for the fix, but it could possibly require a firmware upgrade...

On the D7100 you don't really have a slot choice for Raw. In the shooting menu there is a setting "Role played by card in slot 2". The choices are: Overflow, Backup and Raw slot 1 - Jpeg slot 2. So as you can see raw is slot one or not at all. That being the case it's up to the app to give the user a choice as to what slot to read. As I said in the latest version of the app it still only reads from slot 1. It's not a big deal to switch the cards, but in the heat of battle half the time I'll forget and end up downloading raw. Once discovered then I switch! A firmware change for this particular problem isn't likely, but I'll take it!

Agree...but, the camera would need to allow the app access to slot 2...that may not be the case at this time...If the camera won't allow access to slot 2, then it is likely a two solution fix - update the camera firmware to allow the access and update the software so that the photographer can select slot 1, slot 2, or both.  I agree it is likely a software only fix - just pointing out that there may be a bigger issue behind the scenes that we are unaware of...

A company with Nikon's assets as well as talent this should be a miniscule problem fixed in the blink of an eye. I've had the wifi module and the D7100 since March of 13. The problem remains the same as it was back then. There is no valid excuse that something so simple remains a stain on an otherwise very positive ownership! The fact that it's the only real problem makes it even worse. I've come across the buffer issue a few times, but I always got the shot in spite of.

The app doesn't have the problem. I can pull only the Jpeg from it with no issues or I can switch and have it pull the RAW (which I don't because the tablet is only 16 gig). It's just the camera display when I go through them manually. It's not even really a huge issue just an annoyance when you have to scroll through say 200 pics you actually end p scrolling through 400 pics because it displays both. I'm going to run through the settings again for that and see what I can come up with.

Are you saying you can switch reading the ports via the app? If so I'd like to know how to do that. As mentioned I have to remember to physically move the cards or I read raw every time.

You could just format the jpeg card when the images have been transferred?

Seems to me all these suggestions are working around just fixing the problem. If you have the source code of the app, like say Nikon does, make the app read both ports and allow the user to choose. Problem solved!

Nikonite, I don't think you've understood the OP's problem.

I don't think the 'problem' is with the app, more with the way the camera works. If you have raw+jpeg on one card, you only see one image when reviewing them If you put raw and jpegs on separate cards, you see both when reviewing them. Not that it should make much difference, tbh. NEfs show an embedded jpeg which should be very similar to the jpeg that is shown..

Can you store raw+jpeg on one card and still just save the jpegs over wifi?

Yes if I have them store on one card it can pull only the jpeg to the app and display only the raw on the camera. I think this might be my only solution. The pain with that is when I pull the card to import I have to sort them to not pull the jpegs also. Not that bad of a problem I guess. Just a couple of extra steps. You would think Nikon could just add a simple "Display Jpeg- on/off" in the multi card function.

Boy when I read back what my issue is it just makes me look lazy  :P
