Hello y'all!  I am a rookie here but active on Google+, Facebook and Flickr.  Also on many other forums for general photography.

Just returned to the Nikon fold after many years.  I have owned bodies from Nikon F to F3, and many of the manual focus lenses.  But as my eyesight got older I ventured into autofocus via the Canon system.  Had that until last year (Canon 5d Mkii and some L glass).  But now my old body was kicking back and I needed to lighten the load so sold that and got the SONY NEX-6 and some old glass I had from another manual system, Olympus OM Zuikos.

But the EVF just didn't work for me well.  I print all my own images and wanted to improve the tonal range, etc. so was looking at the 24mp cameras, from Sony A6000 to the Nikon D7100.  Finally settled on the D7100 and the Nikkor 17-55/2.8 AF-s to start with.  This covers 90% of what I shoot (landscapes/cityscapes) so should get me started.

Can use all the help from you guys on setup of the D7100, what to be aware of as far as shortcomings and strengths, of the body and lens.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Tim Taylor

Welcome aboard- you've picked a great camera!  I think the majority of complaints about the D7100 are related to its buffer and burst mode, so you shouldn't have any issues with it as a landscape shooter.

Hi Tim, welcome to the forums. I also have the D7100, I have no complaints at all, it's one of the best cameras I've owned and i'm getting some great results from it. I recently got myself a Sigma 10-20mm wide angle lens for my landscape pics and it works great with the 7100. I'm sure you'll find everyone on here very open and honest and willing to help.

Looking forward to seeing some of your pictures, look out for the weekly challange (your best photo of the week).
