Sometime before midnight (whatever time zone you are in) this Sunday, 24 August, post the best photo you have taken this week. Any subject, any style--just give us your best shot.

PS: If you can, list your EXIF info and any special lighting setups you may have used.

PPS: Don't forget to try out the editing mini-challenge!

Very cool shot--they look a bit like mafia folks...or just generally someone you wouldn't want to mess with. I really like the perspective.

I did my first pour shots on Monday night…and was totally defeated. Learned a lot though! I'll be trying it again. Here are a couple I can stand to look at.

Tried several outside with natural light, trying to use the sun for backlight.

D600, Nikkor 105mm, f/3, 1/1000, ISO 1250

And then it got dark and I wanted to try a white background, so I put my scrim in front of my neighbor's spotlights that he uses to do landscaping work after dark. I don't know what they were…halogen, perhaps. Huge and blindingly bright and YELLOW! Thank goodness for white balance adjustments in Lightroom. (Hurrah for RAW! Too lazy to do it in camera. :) )

D600, Nikkor 105mm, f/10, 1/800, ISO 3200

As I said, I'll be trying again. Learned not to use cheap glass from the dollar store. And next time I'll try HSS. So…who knows when I'll have time to reshoot, but I really need to!

Since I am a novice at pour shots, I didn't want to waste any liquids that actually cost money, so even though it looks like we're drinking Mr. Clean and Windex, it's just water with food coloring added.

I think those two are pretty nice...especially for a first try...I can't wait to see one YOU like if you don't like these! The second looks like it could be a "real" beverage...the only thing I can think of that would come anywhere close to the blue is a sports drink...doesn't fit to me with a wine glass !

Interesting shot. Sharp, and nice colors.   I like it.

Is that a tour boat or a ferry type conveyance?

Hi, this is a canal narrow boat and they are primarily cruising pleasure craft, though many years ago this is how goods were transported around the country.

Hi, this is the Leeds to Liverpool canal in the north of the uk. Tough place to cruise many locks to open and shut.

Interesting shot. Sharp, and nice colors.   I like it.

Very cool!   It got me very curious, so I looked up the UK canals, and found this.

I was totally ignorant of that whole system.   I can see why it would have been a means of transporting goods.

Thanks for sharing that!!

I love the idea of piloting your own boat down these canals--the one I've got my eye on is the Llangollen Canal…I've seen some awesome shots of boats crossing that Pontcysyllte Aqueduct…I think that's what drew me to the narrowboat holiday in the first place. :)

So, jeffs942, how hard are the locks to operate if you've never done it before?

And yes, thanks for sharing--I'm wildly jealous now. ;)

A friend of mine has visited this place.   (I knew they had canals, I just never knew it was such a huge network).
