Planning on trying to get a last minute deal to Hawaii and currently arranging accommodation in O'ahu and The Big island. Obviously, the camera will be tagging along so wondered if anyone has any tips?

Trying to get accommodation in Volcano National Park area and would like to spend time in there and maybe trying to move further up the West Coast a little as well.

Was considering a guided photo tour on O'ahu through O'ahu Photography Tours company - anyone any experience of them?

Thanks,

Hopefully someone on here will chime in with some information for you.  I have yet to make it there, but would definitely like to if the opportunity presents itself!  I am sure that you will find lots of available subjects of all sorts to shoot!  Have a great time and plan on sharing some of your images please!

We stayed here on the Big Island, very close to volcano park entrance, nice cozy bungalows, peaceful and private.  May be hard to book short notice.

Thanks Imurhuckleberry. We managed to book a nice looking place in Volcano complete with hot-tub for end of day relaxation! Any tips on "must see" places within the Park? Plan on hiring a car so we can travel around the Island at our own pace - both young and fit so walking/hiking not an issue.

Several hikes around the rim and down onto older parts of the crater, old lava tubes. Active steam vents near visitors center. Get a map at the entrance. To see the active lava flow, that's way down by the ocean, two lane road out to parking area, then pretty good hike out to the flow area. Best seen at dusk, crowds start gathering early. Or, helicopter sightseeing flight. Have fun!

Never got round to replying. Well we had our holiday and it was fantastic. Our accommodation on Bith Islands was great. Took your advice and did a doors-off heli ride over the current lava flow - immense. Also went up Mauna Kea for sunset. Could go on and on but here is a link to some photos :- Flickr

Nice shots!  Enjoyed the ones from the observatory on Mauna Kea, since we didn't make it up there.
