Interesting composition, but unless it was a completely overcast day I would try to get a bit more definition in the icy small twigs by darkening the sky with a yellow, orange or even red software filter in the B/W conversion. They blend into the sky a bit too much to my eye as it is.

Merco, thanks for the tip on creating more definition with a sky background in b/w photos.

I agree...think the contrast is OK, but maybe just a bump there would bring some separation...Merco's idea is probably your best choice...

I think Peter's suggestion would make for an even better picture however i still like this one for a variety of reasons.
I find it interesting the way the entwining branches form a spaghetti composition that forces me to search throughout the picture looking for detail with the dof giving good structure allowing me to look into the patterns.
Those gentle grey tones and smooth contrast also lend themselves to this subject and composition, drawing out detail and allowing you to fall into it without distractions.
Living in northern Europe i see these kinds of landscapes most years. This particular composition i think does a very good job at capturing the still serenity and solitude of thoughts many experience tracking through a frosty foggy winterscape.
Lastly i like the ice coated thick branch with icicles hanging from it in the right hand bottom corner...a detail my eyes kept coming back to. It almost looks like the skin of some kind of giant millipede, draped out over the branch drying out.
