I am trying to print a photo I took of a staircase to an 8x10 format, but when I send it to the printer I have to crop it.  By doing this I lose a lot of my original photo and wonder if there is anything I can do to print the whole photo and not have to crop it down?

I have PhotoShop Elements and was trying to put a border around it so it would crop down, but it's not working, and I really have no idea where to start. Any suggestions?

A solution depends on a number of different things, but as a simple solution you might have a print option that allows you to select "Fit to Page" which would end up with borders on each side of the image.  Also the option above to print on an 8x12 page.  You could also crop in Elements to 8x10 to select the portion of the image you want.  There are probably other options depending on your computer, software available, printer, ......

If you can set the canvas size to 8x10 and fit centred without cropping, this should do the same as fit to page, but can be sent out for commercial printing.

I don't know elements well enough to be sure if this works, but that is how to do it by the book in PS as it is repeatable.

I tried changing the size of my PSE paper to 8x12 and import my photo on it.  When I sent it to the camera shop to print it, I have to crop it down again.  So I guess that won't work for me.  I have to print it at 8x10., and it cannot have any borders.

I guess a solution they told me at the camera shop is to zoom out when shooting it, and then it will crop down for printing.  He said to imagine an inch border around where I want to crop it when shooting, I guess that makes sense to me now.
