Had a few minutes waiting for the work computer to do some work, so I thought I'd put up some of my high school tennis shots from the spring.  I think all were shot with my 70-200 at f2.8.  All between 1/1000 and 1/2000 and between 200 and 800 ISO.

Heh, most of them don't look like they know how to play.  I'd have probably looked pretty goofy in stills too, however.  Are you the official photographer for all the school sports?

Pretty much cover all the school sports although there are a few I didn't make this year...not required to shoot any other than football, but try to get to at least one of each varsity sport...weather pretty much killed me all year in catching some of the sports.  Whatever I shoot I usually also post on a web magazine that covers high school sports.

I thought the same thing about some of the angles / shots...I'm not a big tennis player, but my Dad was so I've seen it enough to know even if I can't do it!  I really wanted to shoot from the side of the net, but no such luck...

Good shadow control/editing.

Good timing on 8, the closer-in vollies are difficult to time.

I took up tennis a few years ago, it's tricky! But of course I look way better than these guys!! ;)

I do like the intensity in the eyes of of the players.  I think the ball is still on its way to the moon in #9.

I hadn't shot tennis since the 80s so I was happy I came out with some good shots.  I would love to have shot from the side of the net between courts but wasn't allowed to.  I'll make sure to fix that problem before next year!

If anyone has a recommendation out how to shoot without blurring INDOORS let me know.  I  use my 70-200mm Nikon but the indoor lighting isn't ideal.  Have to keep tweaking settings.

Depends on the sport...but minimum speed is 1/500 and some sports 1/1000...wide open aperture (depending on lens) and deal with the noise...but blur is not an option...grain is an unavoidable issue for indoor or night sports...I use that lens all the time indoors for sports at 2.8 - same for the 24-70...

High ISO the only option really once you've hit your shutter speed and aperture limits.
