So I'm opening up ViewNX 2 for the first time since I got the software for free with my purchase of a D5100.

I have saved the photos I want to play around with in a folder but when I go to edit mode the adjustment fields for exposure and white balance to the right is uneditable (as you can see in the attached image below, sorry for swedish screenshot). Has anyone had the same problem and found a way to make it editable?

Would really appreciate the help.

I think those controls require you to shoot in RAW.  Did you open a NEF file or a JPG?

I uploaded it as a .jpg, don't think it's a RAW file though as you can see to the left of the pic title.

I tried to google but couldn't find any work around.

Do I have to shoot in RAW from beginning or can I sort of "backtrack" the format from JPG to RAW (I realize this is probably a longshot :P ).

Oh well I learnt my lesson, I always shot in RAW before but for some reason the default setting was to shoot in jpeg which I didn't notice until now on this new camera. I was wondering why the pictures seemed to come out slightly blurry and lacking that sharpness I wanted, thought it was strange that the D5100 couldn't live up to the standards of the old one I had (D40).

Thanks to both of you :)

Shooting JPG should not cause an image to be blurry or lacking in sharpness...

Spiiike: what compression rate was applied for the JPEG?

That could explain why the pictures weren't of the same sharpness.

But, in most cases, I would prefer RAW anyhow. (There are a few recent threads in this forum about when - and when not - JPEG is prefered above RAW.
